The Peony

On weekends, this young mother would set up at her local village market to sell bouquets that she had carefully prepared the day before. It was the beginning of a dream: to one day become a florist and create beautiful arrangements with the delicate scents of roses, lilies and peonies, her favourite flower.
After her sudden passing, her loved ones wanted to express their love for her through a commemorative celebration in her honour.
The peony is a flower full of richness, history and symbolism. With its lush and round appearance, it embodies elegance, generosity and abundance. In Homer’s Odyssey, the peony’s healing and protective virtues are revealed. At first a timidly closed bud, the peony’s heart opens to generously reveal a unique beauty and an incredible fragrance.
Made from natural stones of emerald-green hue, the young woman’s favourite colour, this commemorative sculpture has eleven petals whose curves and design evoke softness and femininity. The pistil keeps the stones together and seals the sculpture. This final radiant ornament symbolizes love, a source of life and hope.
By each placing a petal piece forming the heart of The Peony, her children and loved ones are able to tenderly evoke her memory and perpetuate her dream of sowing happiness through the beauty of flowers.
